my son has recently become completely absorbed in coin collecting. i'm sure none of you have children that want to obsessively know everything there is to know behind a particular subject. right? LOL

he wants to know absolutely everything behind the history of each coin (quite versed in u.s. history since he became a numismatist) and is particularly fascinated with foreign coins. does anyone know of a group that exchanges coins internationally? or an international penpal group for children?

I don't have much expertise with coin collecting, but perhaps you could find a local group of enthusiasts who share your son's interest? Regular attendance could develop into a sort of mentorship with older members of the club.

Wow, this is so neat. This kind of absorbing interest has taught and will teach him so much. I wish I knew of a group to refer you to. I may sound crazy, but be careful about predators if you introduce him to an adult group. It would be nice if there were a children's group. Anyway, have you asked a nearby library about a group?

My husband collects coins. If your son has any questions about American coins, my husband might be able to answer him. He has a lot of knowledge on colonial coins.
