I get alot of dust blown in from the street since my apt faces a main road. I have tried sealing the windows which seems to help. And I use my dustbuster quite frequently. Its a constant battle though.

Cheaply is a good word. How cheaply is cheap? You'll never get away from dust, and if there is a lot of dust coming into your house, there must be a reason. Sealing windows and doors is a good thing to do, but if that doesn't cut down on the amount of dust, then a good ionic air cleaner might be a better solution.

They collect dust electronically on a panel, and then once a week or so, you can just remove the panel from the unit and then wipe or rinse it off. They work great, but in your estimation, they might not do it cheaply.

I hope that helps.

We live in Oklahoma where the wind always blows...few days a little but mosty every day a lot. So in my mind here it is the wind that causes all the dust to come in the house. We get a lot of straight line winds that cause lots of damage. We are constantly picking up pieces of our poor trees in the yard.

I would guess that everytime you open your door, dust comes into the house. I remember reading an article about the Great Dust Bowl and even though people kept their doors and windows closed as much as they could, there was dust and grit throughout the house. It drove people insane. It was in their food, bed, and clothes.

Dust comes from so many sources. Dust is made up of tiny particles of all sorts of stuff:

*lint from clothes and other fabrics
*dead skin cells
*ashes from the fireplace or cigarrettes
*dirt from shoes
*plants
*pets (dander, etc.)
*the great outdoors

It comes through windows, doors, air vents while riding on shoes, clothes, bags, your hair...There is no escape!!! We are made of dust!!!

LOL I can vouch for the pets. We work from home and there are days we don't leave the house at all. Even so the Roomba runs every morning and picks up a bunch of dust from the pets and just from us moving around. We stir up random dust in the house which the Roomba gets.

So I definitely recommend a Roomba or daily vacuuming, it really does help.

We also have an air filter machine which runs all the time in a back bedroom, it gathers up a lot of that random dust.

If you light incense or burn candles I'd cut down on those things.
