I have a question about jeans;

My husband was told by his friend that rides (the one that was in the wreck a while back) that wearing jeans without the leather chaps can be dangerous, too. That in a wreck, the denim can shred and become imbedded in the wounds.

Is this correct or just urban legend type stuff?

I wear all my gear all the time. Otherwise, I worry too much.

I love hearing how "helmet won't do any good anyway". Um, sure. I personally like my brain and my face and prefer to keep them right where they are.

I am so jealous, you guys get a lot of great road time. Bet when you run over an alligator, that has to cause some serious road rash.

My husband and I ride ~ the same bike with me on back, I don't have my own (yet). ;~} The state we live in has a helmet law, but members of our families live in states that do not and they don't like to visit us on their bikes cause they have to wear helmets. DUH!!! You only got one brain, why not protect it?? We suit up - helmet, eyegear, jackets, leathers and boots. We have the full get-up. Of course it can get pretty hot in the summer, we don't wear our jackets in the middle of the day. They come in handy at night, with all the bugs ~ them things hurt when they hit you! Even with jeans on!

I agree. I have been hit by bugs that feel like you have been really smacked. Almost took me off my bike. I have nothing to prove, I am already cool. I do think the wind in my hair is great until I have to comb it, yikes!!! I love my bike, my brain, my skin, so hell yeah, I protect it all. The state I currently live in, has no helmet law over 21, so most riders here do not wear a helmet. I do and I get some guff, but hey, that is why we live in America.

Yes, jeans will shred. Not sure about embedding in your skin, seems like they could, like any material. Nothing is foolproof in an accident. Proper gear limits your exposure and lessens the risk that you will have road rash, doesn't guarantee it. I have talked to so many people that have had minor accidents and were so thankful that they had gear on. Most have walked away without a scratch. On the other hand, if you don't have proper gear, even falling at slow motion can skin you up.

Not to mention the bruises bugs can leave.

Ugh, we were driving up in the Blueridge mountains this past weekend. It was an absolultely beautiful weekdnd for a drive, and the roads in the mountains are just fun.

We passed about a bazillion bikers I think, LOL. But this one coupld I was just cringing at. The BOTH had on khaki shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, and skull caps. I couldn't help but wonder if they were out on a suicide pact! That had to have been the most insane riding "gear" I had ever seen. All it would take was one teenager showing off to his friends in the mountains, and they'd be roadkill.
