We have had cardinals appearing quite often this winter. Very beautiful bird.

Also, what bird would look like small quails, have very long tails - at least 5-6 inches, and either sit on the ground or on the branch of the tree? Dad said they were ravens, but they were brown with some lighter areas. They had quite a large rounded body, and seemed quite large for a regular bird. Any ideas? There were about a dozen in our back yard last week, but haven't seen them since.

Edie, are they mourning doves? Go to eNature.com and check.

Angie, thanks for the url. Looks like they were mourning doves or at least related. The description on the eNature site said the doves have a long pointed tail, and these had long tails, but were about a half inch to an inch wide at the tip. Anyway, they were definitely in that family.

Thanks again!

I saw a grey squirrel in my garden this morning. I also get jays, bluetits, blackbirds and pigeons on a fairly regular basis.

I live in the centre of London, UK.

Hey, I saw a bluejay today. How beautiful to see them in the birdbath.

I keep seeing Magpies, and obviously, I have to look around for ages trying to find more than one for sorrow, there's a nest out our back. They're driving me crazy! LOL. Also, yesterday morning my cat brought me home a robin - it was so pretty...but dead. The poor thing frown I'm not having luck with birds actually.

What's up with all the crows. They scare me.
