It would be nice if this would be less taboo. One reason many American women don't breastfeed is because of the limited mobility. It would be great to drop the baby off with another nursing friend and have that be pretty normal, and do the same for other friends. I know only one woman who I have seen do this for a sister-in-law whose daughter she babysits.

I've thought about it, but never actually done it.

Why is this taboo?

I think it's wonderful. In fact, I got this urge to lactate so I could help feed needy newborns in foreign countries! Only I'm too old now. And it's more practical to ship formula!

I would SO love to do this! But then, I remember that breastfeeding was a little hard on me. Cracked nipples. ouch.

Well you know that quite often in the days before baby milk that was how people HAD to feed the baby if something had gone wrong and the mother wasn't available to feed him/her. That's what a milk nurse was.

Yep.. it's amazing how quickly industry has managed to medicalize baby care. Hospital births and formula feeding have completely marginalized homebirth and shared feeding. Just a few generations ago it would have never even occurred to any one that either of those things were "weird" or "countercultural."

I was amazed to see it on the view because I'd heard she had transplants. See how gossip spreads? She's been so funny on 30 Rock lately as Jack's love interest.

Breastfeeding was sometimes hard for me even for my own child, I am not sure I would enjoy nursing other babies. I was tempted once to ask my friend who didn't have milk if she wanted me to give her baby some breast milk but I didn't think she would approve, so I kind of just kept quite. That was the only time I thought of it.

Breastfeeding sometimes made me really cranky. Maybe because my son was eating every two hours for half an hour and I had to work in between, so I was nervous.

Breastfeeding was a nice experience, even though I was only able to do it with one of my children.

The only problem I had was my nipples got sore and cracked. ouch. But other than that, I wish I breastfed longer. I wish I could STILL breastfeed. LOL
