Karen that's great! Glad you have a client! My last freelance client was an Educational Toy Merchant. I have listed my experiences of writing for all my different sites on my website if anyone wants any more agencies:

No, I agree. I was pretty surprised how expensive elance was. It always astonishes me how clients can offer only a dollar or two and expect good writing.

I post the sites I use on my Online Writing website below.

Hi everyone, heard of another paying writers market today. It's called examiner.com - has anyone heard of it?

Maybe someone here writes for it already?

Apparently it is a legitimate site, and you need to fill in an application form, to see if your writing is a good fit.

Another online writing site to try? I think they're quite hot on local tips such as local cities etc.

I think that's the one I checked out and the writing committment was a little extreme for what I am looking for! :-)

Yes, I decided not to go for that one. Examiner.com seemed to be geared towards local tips etc - not my thing. Also agree with your point about the online writing commitment - I have gotten used to pick n' mix with my articles! 4 in one week is too much for just one site at the moment.
Not saying it's not a good site for freelance writing jobs though - have heard heard other freelancers praise it.

I just added my experiences of Triond.com to the end of my blog page.

Helium is a site where you get freelance writing jobs - they now have a system where buyers can get your articles as stock content - you get paid $5 for each one.

I have an example on my Online Writing Business Site under Recently Sold Articles.

Be careful with About.com - they sign you up for a long preparation period, weeks and weeks. You put down all youir ideas and they may not take them - or may not take them from you but from somebody else.

It's a lot of valuable time before you learn they have chosen someone else from your group. I have never tried it personally though, I was put off by what I heard from writer colleagues and on Writer Forums.

Decided to give it a miss as I earn well from agencies and clients I am using already and didnt want to cream off time invested in About assignments as I wasn't convinced of any rewards!

I just started with examiner.com. I do have to write 3-4 articles per week, but they can be relatively short so I don't mind. Yes it is local, so it will be a bit of a challenge at first, plugging into the local market. I've been here for years, but writing about it is definitely different.

I find, if anything, my writing here and my writing there play off of each other very well as I learn more and more about the computer every day, plus it opens up my eyes to totally new subjects for all of my sites.

It does cut a smidge into family time, but I write while they watch tv...and computer time can be of a premium some nights. One area it definitely affects is my time in forums, sadly enough.
