I think I shoplifted once when I was very young and I felt so guilty that I never did it again. I don't know of my son ever shoplifting anything, I suppose now that he's a young adult I could ask him out of curiosity. I don't think he has.
I think if we emphasize that these are not "victimless crimes" - that often the employees get penalized for it - that that can help.
