Hello everyone! I'm new here, and have been reading a lot of your posts. I hope to aquire a lot of crochet knowledge from your posts! I learned to crochet from my mom many many years ago when I was a teenager. I remember her using a couple of 2 liter soda bottles as a way of storing the skeins she was working with on the current project. I am just getting back in the mood for crocheting and have bought the yarn for my first afghan in about 15 years!! I was wondering what you would suggest to use as storage or organizing the skeins I am using for whatever current project I may be working on. For instance, the afghan will have 5 different colors going into it. Any help with storage and/or organizations while working on a project will be greatly appreciated! I don't want to end up with a terrific tangles mess! Thanks to all!! Mrs Ocean in Indiana

Hello and Welcome Mrs Ocean,

First I would like to welcome you to the forum. It is great that you are picking up crocheting again.

For itmes that take multiple skeins of yarn I think the 2 liter soda bottles are a great idea. You can cut out the bottom about an inche up and put the skein in thread it though the spout and than tape the bottom on, just to keep the yarn in. Place these in a knitting basket or bag and you would have your yarn ready to use with no tangles.

Today the large coffee cans are great also when you are working with balls of yarn. Wash, dry and cut a hole in the top. Place ball inside and you are good to go.

These are thrifty ways to make your own. Or of course you could buy the ready made holders. I find these work just as well.

Thanks for posting.
Linda

Hi,

I use the large cardboard oatmeal containers (have a plastic lid) - I cut a hole in the lid to string the yarn through, then put the rest into the containter. It works really well, they store the colors nicely - even the large super saver skeins.
