I loved Owen and Mzee. It is an amazing story. There is a sequel too which we have - though I cannot think of the name right now. The sequel was not quite as wonderful but still a great story to read.

Mzee was a hero too. An old turtle bonding and taking care of Owen - that is truly miraculous! A great read for children and adults.

Thanks for the insight on the Owen and Mzee sequels. I think I probably will not seek them out since the first one sounds like the best one. I found Mzee totally interesting as well! Here he is, a 130 year-old tortoise that escaped pirates and shipwreck and swam to shore, and finally he has to get used to this young hippo! It shows that reptiles are more capable of affection than most people think.
