can't seem to ditch the dark riders, which direction to sneak/run from them??

If you're talking about just after the town when you're heading to Maggot's Farm, use the sneak (move very slowly). Watch the glowing dot to make sure it's always green. They have set paths they walk so just wait until they are walking away from you before you cross the road and such.
