Hi everyone, I am a newbie here, but certainly not to the childfree community. Good to meet you all. So I have had this song ringing in my head.. Very catchy but boy have the lyrics freaked me out. I am 32, married 5 years and my husband an I are convinced we won't have kids but figured we'd wait a few years till we turn 35 (he's 5mths my senior) and then if we are still sure, then he gets his Vasectomy. Anyhow, I have been listening to this song alot, and just recently after thinking through the lyrics I thought mhmmm, pretty scarey. What are your thoughts

Oh yarst, *that* song <me pukes>

A good way to brain bleach that tune is watch the version done in the movie "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert".

Elrond does "I've Never Been to Me"

Heh. That's Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith/LoTR Elrond) lipsynching.

Oh well, at the end of the day, she too made choices didn't she. Maybe thats how come she never did to well after that.. she was probably focussing on the regret and failing to turn it around. Its too bad isn't it?

I was not familiar with the song, so I looked up the lyrics. Morrii, I agree with you that the song seems to be focusing just on regrets. And maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I would describe it as not just regrets about a child, but overall regrets about her life and who she is.

I also lost interest when I got to the line about the child that "might have made me complete." Wanting to "complete yourself" seems like an awfully selfish reason to wish for a child. Besides, I would much rather that women had the self-respect to realize that child-bearing isn't what makes them a whole person.

Thats some insight.. never thought of it that way...complete self...Yeah, just to feel good about myself, I thought nowaonder she was a one hit wonder. I really hope that she got over herself tho. It would be interesting to see how her life is now. I sure hope I won't be having those stories. We've decided on a vasectomy in a couple of months. This song has definitely been instrumental in coming the that descision.
