because the ends are split into more than one strand right at the end of individual hair strands.

No cure other than a trim.

Hope that helps.

Just as Nicola Jane said, one hair will split into two or more at the end. You can easily see it if you take one hair and look at it closely.

Split ends usually occur in long hair and almost always in the hair in the crown. This article talks about them.

One of the tricks I use when snipping my own split ends is to hold small sections of my hair up while sitting in front of my computer. I put something on the computer screen with a white or light background such as a text file. Then you can see the little hairs that are split like little Y's.

I also use scissors / shears that are meant for hair that I got at the beauty supply. They don't have to be expensive if you're only using them on yourself. But you should use the proper scissors otherwise your scissors will just be making a bad cut on the hair and will cause the hair to split again sooner.

You can also go to a stylist and get a trim if you see more splits than you can manage. Or if your hair is long enough you can trim your hair yourself using the methods on this site

Take small sections of hair and carefully twist them in a gentle downward motion. Any split ends will automatically stick out.Carefully snip into the twist with sharp scissors. Don't cut right through; just cut into the thickness to remove the damaged cuticles and give a natural layered effect.Be careful to cut roughly the same amount from each twist. sometimes the simplest, and least expensive, ideas are the best. So get trimming!

be very careful with doing this though. instead, spend the 15 bucks and get a trim by a professional!!!!!!

Also use good shampoos, conditioners, and use good care for the hair.
