Several recent studies have linked cola beverages to bone density loss.
Experts think it may be due to high levels of phosphoric acid as well as the caffeine found in dark colored drinks.
Taking in more phosphorus than calcium can put your bones at risk.
Researchers also believe the caffeine might make it more difficult for your body to absorb calcium.
Limit sodas to one can a day.
Choose a caffeine free non cola soda like Sprite {These drinks also contain lower levels of phosphorus}
Better yet try decaffeinated iced tea instead.
Just can't give up soda?
Take a daily supplement of 800 to 1,200mg of calcium to blance out the phosphorus.

The Atkins diet has also come under criticism for its supposed ability to increase the risk of osteoporosis. The diet's high-protein nature increases acidity in the bloodstream, in response to which the body liberates alkaline compounds such as carbonate and citrate from the bone. This involves loss of calcium from the bone, too. This mechanism has been taken to explain why, when people are fed a high-protein diet, higher levels of calcium are detected in their urine.
