A discussion over in the "Healthy Foods" forum about comfort foods gave me the idea to do an article aboiut food and the soul (soulfood!) Here's the link: Feed the Body, Feed the Soul To me, food is way more than just eating- it is fellowship, family, comfort - so many things more than chewing and calories!

Such a good article and so TRUE!
It is so important to make time for meals together as a family. I know people are busy (we certainly are here!) but it isn't just food you are making -- it's memories!

I love the way you write Michelle It's so true. I cherish dinner times. My hubby has had to learn to eat more slowly because I like to linger over dinner. Some of my favourite memories are of dinners we shared with his parents and his sister and her husband. The six of us get on so well and those dinners last hours and are such a hoot. Just thinking about it makes me feel such warmth and love.

This article is really going to apply to this next week! So I'm bumping this discussion back up. I also received this very cute story from a friend that I thought would give y'all a smile. (And being Southern Baptist myself, I can say that this is completely TRUE!!!) Religious Symbols The kindergarten teacher asked the students in her class to bring something related to their families' religions to class the next day.
She asked for volunteers to show what they had brought to the rest of the class. One boy came forward and said, "I am Muslim, and this is my prayer rug."
Another child came forward and said, "I am Jewish, and this is my Star of David."
Another came forward and said, "I am Catholic, and this is my Rosary."
The last little boy came forward and said, "I am Southern Baptist, and this is my Covered Dish."

I was so glad to come by this article. I really needed to be reminded and to share a story that is soo good and in need of this place to be read : SAYING GRACE
Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!" Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray--Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!" Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"
As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer." "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man replied. Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."
Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember for the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."
so true --thanks you for leting me share -Merry Christmas sablelulu

Too often we forget that it doesn't matter what we pray about or give thank for just as long as we do it.
Thank you for sharing this very cute story with us!
