Fun new travel method arrives in London.

Today, the new Japanese-style bullet-shaped train arrived in London!

Hope this heralds a more green method of travel through Europe for travellers who don't like flying!

It should prove to be more cost-effective too, now that air fares have increased!

What does the bullet train connect to? Is it just London and the suburbs or does it go to other cities?

I love taking the train, and it's so sad that there aren't many trains here in the U.S. Last year, we took a train from London to Gloucester, and it was a lovely ride through the countryside!

If I heard the radio broadcast right, it is France! (...and so to Europe through the Channel Tunnel)

Got it! Well, it sounds really cool. I've had luck with both trains and budget airlines in Europe - usually it's just a matter of which is cheaper and/or more convenient at the time, and it seems to be split pretty equally.

I do think trains are much more eco-friendly, though, and the experience is so much nicer... there's nothing quite like rolling through sunflower fields in France, rolling green hills in Ireland, or the beautiful rocky sea coast in Denmark....

Yes and the London to Paris rail option is so temptingly close now, especially if you actually live near London. It has to be one of the fun things to do in London, if you have plenty of time there.

(Although it can't have been much fun to be involved in the recent fire - that would sure put me off!)

I've found the Eurorail in London to be pricey. You can fly cheaper on the local airlines if you book in advance. They are the "southwest" of Europe and have amazing deals.

Unfortunately train travel is extremely expensive in most of Europe... but a handful of budget airlines make travel between countries incredibly cheap, sometimes as low as $20 one way. Have a look at EasyJet or Ryanair to start, but there are plenty of others as well. Much as I love trains, most times I can't justify NOT flying in Europe...
