I'm thinking of reviewing some classic Brit comedy for the site, as I want an excuse to watch Fawlty Towers again!

What classic comedies do people like? I'm thinking of things like Keeping Up Appearances (which I know is popular here!), Only Fools and Horses and things like that - any suggestions would be most welcome!

I love the theme from Only Fools and Horses - but never quite got into it - BUT - speaking of that, Only Fools and Horses had the man who played Owen from The Vicar of Dibley. That one would be a good one to review.

Fawlty Towers is a good one - Waiting for God - As Time Goes By - Are You Being Served - Monty Python??? These are the ones I can think of now.

Oh - my friend loved Chef.

Jeeves and Wooster was a good one. Not really a weekly series but it aired on PBS. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.

Yes, Jeeves and Wooster would be a great one to get back into. It's so weird, since seeing Hugh Laurie playing House, even I think he's American!!! Is he as convincing playing an American to US viewers?

I love Waiting For God - such bleak humour.

And Python of course - I should be sacked on the spot for forgetting to mention them! They are after all the epitome of British Comedy Classics... :-S

In fact, I think they deserve their very own thread! *goes to start a Python thread*..

Yes, lots of people think Monty Python is the height of British humor - I am convinced many viewers from other countries like US and Australia don't see what's so funny though? Howerver, Spamalot has been very popular - do you think it's a cult thing?
The cast came to Trafalgar Square to show the London tourists how to play the coconuts! Is that funny? Loads of people seemed to think so - I wrote about it on our London travel diary below....

I don't see how anyone from any country can't understand what's funny about Monty Python!

"The Holy Grail" is the well, Holy Grail of comedies!

My husband has programmed his cell phone to alert him when when alerts come through with the arrow swoosh and "message for you, sir!"

I love the argument that the father and son have about whether the dad is dead, yet. "I'm not dead" "yes you are", "no really, I'm feeling much better now" etc., etc.

I know a lot of people have the Dead Parrot sketch memorized and the Lumberjack song. Personally the cricket match, which I think is a very boring sport, has the best line. "Extremely well not played"

I love them all, comedy and drama. Saturday night is my night to watch 4 of them. A long time ago I used to watch a sitcom which name I can't remember. Most of the action took place in the local pub and there was one woman who always had her hair in curlers. I enjoyed watching. Could that have been Coronation Street? I really wish my Public TV would re-run Upstairs Downstairs, a real classic. And then there's Mr. Bean.....nuf' said. Loved the Thin Blue Line.

Tampa has channel 3 - WEDU and they show the Vicar of Dibley, Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances, As Time Goes By, Waiting for God, etc.

It used to show The Thin Blue Line and Mr Bean.....I just love Rpwan Atkinson!!! I would like ot see him and Robin Williams get together and perform sometime...maybe with Styeve Marton and John Cleese, too......just let them improv. I'd pay a lot to see that.

Puddy - you may be talking about The Last of the Summer Wine....did it have the man who played Captain Peacock in it? (Frank Thronton)

Classic british comedy to review well Vicar of Dibley as mentioned above and also Only fools and horses were two great shows. You can probably add Porridge and Open all hours to the list along with Blackadder, Rising Damp, Last of the Summer Wine, Citizen Smith to name a few others..
