When you go to try out perfumes and you find some that you like - do they all have a common ingredient...or two?

I am finding that the scents I like usually have amber in common.

I like lily of the valley and jasmine/ylangylang. I also like patchouli and pepper and nutmeg and coriander in my "spicy" choices (like Halston).

I like florals, hubby likes spicy, orientals. So I wear some of both. (Not at the same time, though:))

Halston is my all-time favorite Oriental/Spicy and I look for similar ingredients when I see a new perfume advertized:

DESIGN HOUSE - Halston
YEAR INTRODUCED - 1975
FRAGRANCE NOTES - peach, vetiver, cedarwood, patchouli, carnation, spearmint
RECOMMENDED USE - daytime

scent strength: moderate
scent life: 6-10 hours
recommended use: casual
recommended age: mature
classification: oriental/spicy
(from Fragrance dot Net website)

Avon had 'Rare Rubies' for a while and that had coriander and black pepper in it--but they stopped making it in the US and the one I got from UK did not smell the same.

My favorite all-time Floral is White Shoulders:
"This feminine scent possesses a blend of classic florals including gardenia, lilac, amber, oakmoss, and jasmine." Also has musk in it.

And my "French" choice for fragrance is Anais Anais:
"This feminine scent possesses a blend of cedar, leather, and blooming, fresh cut flowers. Accompanied by white flower notes of gardenia, jasmine, and lily of the valley."

so I guess I picked the individual scents I like correctly! (the decriptions are from The Perfume Spot website.)

I like "pirate cutie"- by Ed Hardy designs.
It smells wonderful, it's not that subtle, not that harsh...just simply pleasant...
