I usually plan way in advance for travel hoping to save money,usually jumping on a great airfare deal. But more and more I find that people who wait until the last minute are scoring better deals than me. So, how do you plan your trips?

I usually plan in advance, well in advance. I know that there are last minute discounts but I don't want to take the risk of not being able to find a ticket (when I really need to buy one).

I am planning a trip to Port Townsend, Washington for July 2009. I am planning on driving. I've been checking out Motel 6's all the way and figuring out spots along the way to stop to photograph and just plain play.
