It is a great day in American History. Today we put aside our bitterness, our hatred, our bigotry and united under a man who can unite this nation. To show us how great a nation American can be and is.
Today we proved that any child can dream of being President, to hold the highest office in this nation, to hold the most honored and trusted position of political power, and that the color of your skin does not matter. Today, when a black child tells their parent they aspire to be President, the parent can respond back, YES YOU CAN!
Today, we elected Barack Hussein Obama President of the United States of America.

thank you Kim. The words just came to me ;0) It was a very moving thing to watch him get elected. I actually cried when they announced his win. Like so many men and women on the tv, it was an emotional day for me. And it matters not my skin color is not black.. like I said.. today.. color does not matter

After eight years of negativism and division to a new beginning of optismism and unity. It is a great day for the Promise and Idealism of America that has been 200+ years in the making.

It is wonderful to take such a huge step foward and elect a black man as President, but at the same time take a huge step back and deny gays and lesbians the right to wed.
Sun flames and moons glow, timeless the tides will flow, what will I face, what will be mine, fortune and fate the other side...

Consider this:Obama's election to the Presidency is...
143 years after the end of the Civil War and the passing of the 13th amendment abolishing slavery. 54 years after the Supreme Court ruling on "Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka" legally ended segregation in the United States 45 years after Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech 43 years after the passing of the Civil Rights act and the Voting Rights act. 40 years after the death of Martin Luther King Jr. 20 years after Jesse Jackson's run for the White House
America has traveled and long, hard and painful road, but it has come a very long way.

I agree that the victory was bitter-sweet. We took a giant step forward in one respect and several more in the wrong direction when it came to the gay marriage issue.
I have hope, however, that our new president will make great strides to right that wrong. The fact that he even mentioned gays in his speech on election night was a sign to me that he truly does want to unite this country once and for all. Hopefully his actions will support his words.
