What is your worst experience with growing roses?

My sister who is not a gardener purchased a miniature rose from the grocery store. She never watered it, and her apartment was very dry. When my mother found it on her window sill it was completely petrified in it's original state. Its color hadn't even faded.

I think my worst is falling off an 8' ladder onto a 20' foot climbing rose while I was pruning it. I of course reached out my hands to catch myself and impaled my plams on the 1 1/2 inch thorns. It was awful, my hands were bandaged for a week.

Oh, my goodness Charity. Talking about being a serious gardener (no pun tended) but I think my worst experience was trying to prune my hybrid rose bush while constantly saying ouch.....Oh,no, it wasn't the thorns on the rose but the thorns on the bougainvilla right next to it. yeah, ouch! Still, they look so good together in the fall, I couldn't dare make them part.

The first plant I added to my very 1st garden was a tropical hybiscus. I lived in VA at the time. I was so upset when it didn't come back in the spring. Looking back at it now, the whole thing seems both funny and sad.
