When you reached the top what do you do next?

OH.. you make a part II.

There are so many reasons why people make another part: they have written 6 scripts and plan on making them all, they want to stay on top and milk the idea for all it's worth, and sometimes- they some how manage to created a better movie then the first (more budgeting, more creative freedom, better character development).

What ever the reason maybe, I feel there should be a cut off for a movie. example- was Texas Chainsaw II & III & the beginning -nessecary? The original was great. I think it should have ended there. Chucky? movie one- scary- the rest laughable. Freddy, Jason, Michael- love you fellas but could have been happy with the orginals. Do you ever feel that enough is enough?

Remaking classics- this is a fine line. I must compliment the movie makers for "updating" the old and bringing in a bunch of new fans, but I feel that the purity of the orginal is tainted by modern effects. The some how "too perfect" look of blood or gore, distracts from the story. We are so busy- oo and Ahh-ing over them that we lose the underlying story.
(Can you relate to that?)

To be fair- when time, creativity and budgeting allow more allowance to create a sequel- sometimes they get it right. The Terminator is a great example of that. Terminator I had me on the edge of my seat. This relentless machine did not stop till it was completely destroyed. And like most people I said that was amazing, I wonder how Camron will top that. 10 years later he did it with Terminator II. I found that the "cyborg" was not as relentless but the fact that he was able to change shapes and states(liquid/solid) was so inventive. I was impressed...then they ruined it with T3.

Remakes and Sequels are definately an area of hit or miss for fan and film makers alike.~ Happy Belated Halloween~

I despise re-makes. They're rarely any good, usually simply exactly the same as the original with a different cast (plus added sex, violence, drug use and swearing - as advertised in the Friday the 13th re-make - as if that's a good thing?) - all so Hollywood can make more money. I think it's disgusting that production studios such as 'Platinum Dunes' are allowed to do re-make after terrible remake, especially on movies which could easily be re-released (as with the Exorsist)as they have not dated in the slightest. This topic really grinds me, I'm not so much against sequals, even though they do bring the horror genre down greatly, but nearly every re-make, bar 'Texas Chainsaw' has been awful. In fact, they've been terrible. 'The Omen' and 'Psycho' are two of the worst cases - I honestly think that they should be stopped, there should be some copyright put into place against re-makes. I'm so disgusted that they're re-making 'A Nightmare on Elm St' - my fave horror ever, and 'Rosemary's Baby' - a perfect movie of the novel, which practically flows as the book does. These movies can't be surpassed!
These re-make companies are only in it for the money, the 'Halloween's re-make by Rob Zombie (who is supposed to be a huge fan of the original) was disgusting, sexist rubbish. It took away all the suspense of the original - with the main reason being Michael Myers killed because he was simply crazy. In the re-make they had to give him abusive, alcoholic parents - it was awful and predictable. I would never re-make 'Elm St' - so I highly doubt Zombie is such a great fan of Carpenters original.
Obviously some movies, such as 'The Fly' or 'The Thing' are better than the originals - but they were originally B-movies, and had something to change or give more to an audience, other than sex and violence. I say if it's not broken, why fix it? Or ruin it in most cases?

I don't think any sequal or re-make has surpassed the original, and I don't include movies such as 'The Fly' or 'The Thing' because they're completley different. By definition alone these movies are inferior.

I'm wondering if there could ever truly be another original. It seems the movie makers want to go with the "tried and true" hoping that it will make the same money as the original....then they will wait for a new "generation" do a remake and hopefully make money on it again. It looks like this is the trend...do I have it right? When was the truly last original movie?
