I despise re-makes. They're rarely any good, usually simply exactly the same as the original with a different cast (plus added sex, violence, drug use and swearing - as advertised in the Friday the 13th re-make - as if that's a good thing?) - all so Hollywood can make more money. I think it's disgusting that production studios such as 'Platinum Dunes' are allowed to do re-make after terrible remake, especially on movies which could easily be re-released (as with the Exorsist)as they have not dated in the slightest. This topic really grinds me, I'm not so much against sequals, even though they do bring the horror genre down greatly, but nearly every re-make, bar 'Texas Chainsaw' has been awful. In fact, they've been terrible. 'The Omen' and 'Psycho' are two of the worst cases - I honestly think that they should be stopped, there should be some copyright put into place against re-makes. I'm so disgusted that they're re-making 'A Nightmare on Elm St' - my fave horror ever, and 'Rosemary's Baby' - a perfect movie of the novel, which practically flows as the book does. These movies can't be surpassed!
These re-make companies are only in it for the money, the 'Halloween's re-make by Rob Zombie (who is supposed to be a huge fan of the original) was disgusting, sexist rubbish. It took away all the suspense of the original - with the main reason being Michael Myers killed because he was simply crazy. In the re-make they had to give him abusive, alcoholic parents - it was awful and predictable. I would never re-make 'Elm St' - so I highly doubt Zombie is such a great fan of Carpenters original.
Obviously some movies, such as 'The Fly' or 'The Thing' are better than the originals - but they were originally B-movies, and had something to change or give more to an audience, other than sex and violence. I say if it's not broken, why fix it? Or ruin it in most cases?
