Obama blended his sharp rhetoric with a more humorous approach as he sought to fend off McCain's charge that his tax policies amount to socialism.
McCain, he said, will soon "be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten." So does this mean that Obama is in denial that his spread the wealth ideology is socialism? Interesting. I wonder what he would call it? I think he would probably call it fairness.

Fairness. Right. Take from those whove earned it at a disproportionate rate and redistribute their earnings. That's not fairness, that's socialism bordering on marxism.
If you want fairness, then levy a flat tax. All earners pay the same rate, a flat 25%.

Whatever you call it, something has got to give. Obviously the system is flawed as it is or we wouldn't be in the crisis we now find ourselves in. How is a flat tax fair to the majority of Americans who aren't part of the big boy's club and aren't privy to all the convenient tax breaks that comes with such a membership?
For a nation that puts such an emphasis on religion when it comes to passing laws, it's amazing how things change when it comes to taking care of its poor.
I don't see the harm in having the very wealthy do without a few added luxuries if it means putting food on the tables of more American families.

My hubby just pointed out that it was interesting that not once in the entire half hour did Obama even mention McCain.

One thing I did find incredibly amusing yesterday, (and you have to understand that the area I live in is smack between Atlanta and Gainesville, GA another large city, but we are experienceing "growing pains" - people here just aren't used to being city folk yet, LOL). But I had my son at the Dr. office yesterday afternoon, and one of Obama's commercials came on and this woman just speaks up (very loudly) - "he's not evem American!" I looked at her kind of funny and said, "If he wasn't born in America, he couldn't be running for President." She was kind of stumped for an answer. I'm not for Obama, but don't give irrational reasons like that to not vote for him! Do some studying and make informed decisions.

First of all, it's not only the wealthy who will suffer. There will be consequences which will affect everyone. And not in a good way. Secondly, there are MANY MANY MANY Christians who donate money & time locally and abroad either through their churches or on their own. They are not being FORCED by anyone to do that. I don't understand why SOME feel the need to FORCE everyone to give. I'd love to know how many people who try to use that argument actually give themselves throughout the year and what percentage they give. Don't start attacking people of faith on giving, because it's the churches and organizations that churches support that MANY people count on, especially when the government drops the ball and decides it can't help for whatever reason.
As for the big boy tax breaks, isn't that basically the same idea behind the child tax credits, the educational grants and the extra money we all got this year? Isn't that also basically the welfare handouts that people receive throughout the year? So let's see, a person is on welfare all year, they get a child tax credit, they get a bonus refund on top of that, for no real reason, and they get educational grants if they are in college... and in your mind, they are getting nothing? What more do you think they should get?

I'm not coming in on any side here but one thing people should realize in the whole "tax the wealthy" idea is that the wealthy DON'T PAY TAXES - anyway, not the way most of us to. If they are taxed more, they simply raise prices, cut workers, whatever they need to do to come up with that increase. It does not come out of their pockets or cause them much inconvenience. It's the rest of us who will be paying more to make up their increase.
My aunt and uncle own a mobile home park for seniors on fixed incomes. They try not to raise prices unless necessary but if their taxes go up, they will raise rents to cover it, they won't cut into their profits.
My husband and I are not among the wealthy, yet we saved a couple thousand dollars in taxes from the Bush tax cuts. If these are allowed to expire, we will be paying more again.
I don't see how they can cut taxes on everybody but the "wealthy", add programs, hand out checks, etc AND balance the budget and stop run away spending.
I'll just be glad when it's OVER!

I think he would probably call it fairness. Why is that fair? Everyone (with the exception of those with medical problems) have the same opportunities. You can choose to get an education which will lead to a better paying job. You can choose to get a 2nd and 3rd job in order to generate more revenue. You can choose to cut expenses. How is it fair to take money from people that have struggled to reach their current income level and give it in a disproportionate share to those that have chosen not to make the same struggles? We stopped to get gas last night and were amazed, once again, at the number of people driving cars that were falling apart, dressed like they were dirt poor, and yet were standing in line to buy lottery tickets, beer, and cigarettes. Why should we reward this type of behavior? What type of society are we creating by penalizing people for being successful? Where's the motivation to be successful when you can live off welfare? What lesson are we sending the next generation? Sure, there are people that need a helping hand from time to time and we have organizations and funds available for such cases. But to send a global message that it's okay to underachieve for your entire life because someone else will overachieve so that you can still buy your beer is insane.
