As I said, I am not wild about EITHER's health care plans. However, when I look at overall pictures, it's just one piece of the pie and I have to vote for who I feel is the lesser evil.

It seems like this is the mantra of this election.

No one has to vote for the lesser of evil. What we need to do is vote for 3rd party people if they're on the ballot in your state. No worries about them winning, just vote for them so that these two parties see that people want real Change. This two party system is not working.

From my perspective, that would be a wasted vote and would only serve to insure the candidate I do not want in office is that much closer to his goal.

I have to agree with Lynn on this one. Just because I don't agree with every position, there are enough I DO agree with and feel strongly about that I would not just waste my vote on a 3rd party with no chance of winning.

That is my husband's stance, too.

I really want to vote for the candidate that I agree with the most, not the one that I disagree with the least.

{sigh} I don't know what I am going to do come election day. The last election I did vote for one of the Independents - Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian party. But in 2004 I thought there actually was a chance of an Independent winning. I don't think there is a shot this year.

Your husband is obviously a smart man because his calculations are correct. McCain is proposing a tax credit to replace the tax break. In virtually all situations, the credit will be more of a financial benefit than the current tax break.

Additionally, the tax credit will be available to everyone regardless of whether or not they obtain their insurance through their employer. This plan is a BIG benefit to very small employers who are unable to obtain equitable insurance. Their employees are usually forced to obtain insurance through their own initiative and McCain's tax credit will now be available to them whereas the current tax break is not available to them.

McCain's Healthcare plan is very detailed and has been created with much thought and consideration. I think on many levels it is rather complicated and difficult to explain with a few "bullet points." However, it is much more realistic than Obama's plan and, while it may not be perfect, I think it goes a long way in providing the beginning of healthcare reform.

McCain's plan will not destroy or harm our current healthcare system and this is a big plus.

I'm on social security, so I have Medicare. Not thrilling.

Daisybun, McCain's plan still applies to you. His plan will reform the Medicare payment system and will compensate providers for diagnosis, prevention, and coordination of care.

Our current system is causing more and more physicians to opt-out of accepting Medicare which will decrease the availability of care. Medicare reform is an important issue that simply must be addressed before it is too late.

How is a 5000 dollar "tax break" going to offset a sudden 12 to 15K "income increase" that you never really see?

How is an employer going to have any incentive to provide health care to you when the 12 to 15K it cost them to provide it for you is no longer a business expense that is fully deductible? Now it will be deductible as "payroll" but with payroll comes pay roll taxes, so it's actually a Tax Increase for a Business that provides health care, by quite a bit. For the individual it's 12 to 15 k. Imagine if you have 100's of employees.
