... the god ra is taught to be a mythological figure in main stream society. ya i guess someone somewhere could still have that belief, but those are accepted as dead religions... look it up. the relevance of you bringing up those past beliefs are as relevant as me talking about how the world is flat. they both are meaningless and irrational ways of looking at the world. you can't look solely at past beliefs and try to validate a present belief because past ones don't exist anymore. ie: talking about ra does nothing for your argument. if you want to defend a stance believed in in the present... use present references and examples... if you must use a reference at all.

as you know nothing of my spiritual perspective i don't know how you think you could not fabricate... unless you feel you know me intimately enough to be able to divine that information. so yes, it would be a fabrication.

everyone isn't ridiculous, the world isn't comprised solely of people who get off on dislike people because of some moral difference. and atheism and theism aren't people, they're beliefs. so unless you define yourself solely by this one belief, this one issue is all that you are made up of, yes, such a person would be somewhat ridiculous. fortunately people are not the ideas they partake of... they just partake of them. if an idea is ridiculous because it makes people do ridiculous things, that doesn't mean the people who believe it are ridiculous... they might do ridiculous things and i'd probably question their motives or whatever... as they aren't exactly allowing other people that same freedom of existence... and ya, a viewpoint that structured does seem quite ridiculous to me.

you put too much of your focus on grammar and not enough on the actual content... this doesn't seem to be going anywhere so i won't respond to you again... lets hope we never meet in real life. :P

greatedcorn, I hope you do not think I was making light of you - I was just trying to lighten the situation.

After 3 years of being an editor with BellaOnline, and having different discussions on this board, I have found the two places where tempers are most likely to flare are in the religious forums and in the political forums (particularly this year - ugh!)

I try to step in when I can and keep the tone a little lighter, because I do feel we can all learn a lot from each other - whether we agree or not. I am solidly a Christian, but talking with Atheists has given me ideas and different outlooks on some things, it has actually made my faith stronger.

Back to Ra - yes in school he and others are taught as mythological figures. But I have learned over the past few months (when I took over as Spirituality editor) that worship of these gods is very much alive and real - just not popular. I never realized it before, it kind of shocked me a little bit as I thought that these deities had just been made up to explain things people of the day and age didn't understand.

But when I step back and look at Christianity with a completely dispassionate eye, I must admit that the same thing can be said about my beliefs. (Except that I don't believe that. Faith, y'know. grin)

Past beliefs don't exist anymore , or they never existed?

I appreciate that you will not respond again as I have many thoughtful people with which continue enlightening discussion. If I were to not use references at all then I would just be presenting opinion. While I think my opinion is good it tends to help when backing it up.

Fabricate what? Can someone enlighten me? Did I claim I knew this poster intimately or at all?

Paragraph three I will leave alone as I read it four times and don't know what is being said.
