greatedcorn, I hope you do not think I was making light of you - I was just trying to lighten the situation.
After 3 years of being an editor with BellaOnline, and having different discussions on this board, I have found the two places where tempers are most likely to flare are in the religious forums and in the political forums (particularly this year - ugh!)
I try to step in when I can and keep the tone a little lighter, because I do feel we can all learn a lot from each other - whether we agree or not. I am solidly a Christian, but talking with Atheists has given me ideas and different outlooks on some things, it has actually made my faith
stronger.
Back to Ra - yes in school he and others are taught as mythological figures. But I have learned over the past few months (when I took over as Spirituality editor) that worship of these gods is very much alive and real - just not popular. I never realized it before, it kind of shocked me a little bit as I thought that these deities had just been made up to explain things people of the day and age didn't understand.
But when I step back and look at Christianity with a completely dispassionate eye, I must admit that the same thing can be said about my beliefs. (Except that I don't believe that. Faith, y'know.
