I thought this was interesting and I totally agree! Mr. Huckabee asked how Mr. Wurzelbacher felt about the scrutiny he'd received. "It actually upsets me," Mr. Wurzelbacher said. "I am a plumber, and just a plumber, and here Barack Obama or John McCain, I mean these guys are going to deal with some serious issues coming up shortly. The media's worried about whether I paid my taxes, they're worried about any number of silly things that have nothing to do with America. They really don't. I asked a question. When you can't ask a question to your leaders anymore, that gets scary. That bothers me." BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. I have heard quite a bit of discussion on this subject in the past week. The questions have run from 'What does it mean to share the wealth?' to 'How should government be paid for?' to 'What does Socialism mean?' to finally 'Now that the banking system has been nationalized, does it matter?'
I belief this was the topic of the discussion that led to a Congresswoman from here in Minnesota talking herself right out of a government position. Of course, the election hasn't happen yet, but her opponent received a lot of support over the weekend.
I don't have the answers, but the questions has been asked. GrannyH

No one seems to care what Obama's answer was to his question. They are more concerned with trying to make Joe out to be some bad guy. It's ridiculous. I agree. Obama's answer provided good insight into his true feelings...not that he's kept his socialistic agenda a secret. It's really pathetically sad that Joe the Plumber has been under more scrutiny in the past week than 'Ayers the Radical' was under in the past 24 months. It speaks volumes about the state of the media and the Obama worshipers/followers.

I don't think there is anything wrong with pointing out that Joe's question didn't really even apply to the "real" Joe as he cannot afford and likely will not afford for some time to buy this business. He probably wasn't even really planning to buy.
The really ironic part is that "Joe" will benefit more if Obama wins than if he loses since he is no place near the 250K mark in earnings. In fact he'll get a tax cut which could help him a lot since he owes taxes.
I feel for Joe because he probably didn't expect this to happen but I'm pretty sure it was a set up from beginning to end. Perhaps with all the press being on this issue Joe has been educated that he should vote for Obama over McCain. Given that these are his choices.

Here's the thing... it may not be "real" for Joe's situation RIGHT NOW, but what about his plans for the future? What about other ppl who ARE in that type of position. I think his question was relevant to be asked whether it applied to him personally or not. Look at it as a hypothetical.
As for Joe benefiting more if Obama wins... some of us see a larger picture. Sure Joe benefits more now. At what expense? And what about in the future?
I also highly doubt it was a set up. Until you have some hard facts to prove it was, even implying it is kind of insulting.

It IS in my near future, and I don't mind paying a little more taxes so someone in a lessor situation can have an equal chance at success. Why are people so selfish?
It's just a fact of life that more people become successful with a more progressive tax structure than what we are doing now.
Right now we're redistributing wealth upward and it's not working. Lets go back to what works.

I agree. Who says that those of us who are "lower classed" don't work as hard? I think most of the time we work harder for less. We struggle more for what we get. I see nothing with restructuring the taxx system so that those who make less than 250K don't pay more taxes and those who do, do. It's about time they paid their fair share of the taxes as well.

I don't mind paying more taxes. But when " Joe " asked the question, wether he was true to his identity or not, look I thought our passed Leaders were true to who and what they said they were, and look how that has played out! Point is,I don't want to share my wealth with everyone.
That would be like lending money to every dead beat that would ask to borrow and never pay it back.Personally my entire life has been working to " Try " and better for someone else,I would like to think it makes a difference. So many sit home wanting government to take care of them, that is not what it's about! That, I feel is part of the reason we are where we are. I believe "Joe's" question planted or not, is a question that has been on the minds of so many.Who cares why the question was asked,LISTEN to the answer, and if it fits your need, then vote that way,if it does not then you listened to the answer!

My problem is not with the giving itself, it's with the idea that people who have worked hard for their money are too stupid to know what to do with it. It's the idea that the Government should have say in how earned money should be spent or given. I know MANY people who give and contribute to organizations locally and abroad. Why should the government be the one's to determine who gives and how much and where? It's forced tithing to the government in my opinion. Those who want to give and spread your "wealth" around (which many of you have stated you are in agreement with), why do you need a government mandate to do that? If people who claim to be happy about spreading their wealth around actually did that, we wouldn't need the government to step in and force people to do it. Apparently whatever people are currently giving isn't enough. Or perhaps the government just wants more power and say.
I just don't understand why anyone who makes that kind of money would PREFER to have the government in control of it and dictating where it will go, rather than giving you, the person who worked for it, the right to determine how much and where to and when you will give.
