Should GLBT adults be allowed to adopt? In the last week I've have heard the opinion (very loudly) that they shouldn't. Whats your thoughts on the matter?

For the record, I am a married heterosexual woman and I think ALL who are capable should be allowed to adopt. Please forgive me if this next statement sounds stupid but do adoption agencies have a list of requirements and on that list is there anything that says must be heterosexual ? I will try not to be gross here but in my little opinion everyone (ok most) are really focused on what happens in ones bedroom and with whom (that is again the way I see it) and with that in mind I seriously would like to know if the adoption agencies ask ALL couples....ok sir do you dress up in costumes and you Ma'am do you swing upside down etc. etc. because you good folks know we can't have that now. Although I do not know alot about the adoption process but I THOUGHT the whole idea was to give the child a GOOD HOME period. I would also like to know if there is a "list" of requirements, is the "list" different for single people ? Now don't get me wrong I do think there should be requirements to adopt, I just don't believe one of them should be who you choose to be your partner in life.

Any person who is able and willing to adopt and share their love SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO! PERIOD!

There are too many kids in the system to be so stingy and use your morals against someone else.

Give me a break, if two people man n man woman n woman have the love to share to raise a child let it be. Love is love period.

to answer asked some questions.

1. YES some agencies will specifically list that it must be a heterosexual couple to adopt, some others will just creatively avoid taking them on as clients.
2. Some countries have specific laws against allowing GLBT from adopting all together.
3. Most GLBT couples have to adopt as a single woman or man simply because its easier.

Yes there is absolutely a list of requirements for adoptions but it varies in every way from every where. Domestic is different from international and each angency will have its own quirks. In most circumstances there is a different list for single individuals, but again it depends on the agency.

For most adopting you end up having to hide this big part of your life for fear of being denied a child based on your sexual orientation. Ironic that no question is asked about what goes on in everyone elses bedroom *sigh*

Of course. One way is simply supporting any and all equality campaigns/bills/laws and a good resource for this is hrc.org (human rights campaign).

There is no way to make other countries change their laws regarding this, but again raising awareness.

As for the discrimination by stateside agencies, the best way is send letters/boycott/complain about the situation. (squeaky wheel tactic)

Yes of course all couples and individuals should be allowed to adopt children who need a home.
