Management sent out the following email today:

Trick or Treating for the Kids:

If you have children, bring them in.
If you don't, bring in treats.
Between 3:00 and 4:00 the office will be open
for trick or treating for our children.
If you do not want to participate, please close your door, and you will not be bothered.

What about those of us who have no office? How can we opt out of this? This is so unfair. Because the secretaries sit outside of the attorney's offices, we are a captive audience to this every single year. I don't bring candy and don't appreciate someone telling me that because I don't have children, I must bring candy. Ugh!!!!

This year I'm leaving early. I hate this time of year.

That stinks. At the very least, they should request EVERYONE bring in candy....and maybe those without kids should get the leftovers!

I've got it: Tell them you would bring in candy, but the money you would have spent is going toward the taxes that allow their kids to go to public school.

I know, that's not a very constructive response. But I agree with you that it's unfair.

That isn't fair at all! Everyone who has kids who will participate are the ones who should bring in the treats. If you don't have children or your children won't be participating you should have the choice to bring in something or not.
I'm sorry you have to leave early and lose pay just so you don't have to participate. Send an e-mail back to the management explaining this, it's wrong to bring in your children and expect treats from people if you aren't bringing in treats for the other children also.
