I know what I sense heading this way economically, socially, etc. but I'm curious what other people expect to see changed outside of the fact we will have our first black president, personally effecting the home?

What specifically do you see or feel will change when Obama takes presidency?

Neither candidate feels like the once upon a time hero's we would see entering such a position every decade or so in either party.

This is a complicated question, Elleise!

We are now in one of the messiest situations we have encountered since the Great Depression of the 30's. Our current administration has created so many layers of disasters, that no one human being, or even one administration could possibly clean it up, super hero style, in one term.

While you specifically said "I'm curious what other people expect to see changed outside of the fact we will have our first black president, personally effecting the home?" the fact that you mentioned his race, makes it jump out. For many, his race is clearly a factor.

I don't personally see Obama's race as a factor that should affect any one person's home, other than in positive ways. The color of an individuals skin does not define their character, but to black children and adults alike, whether they live in the ghetto or in the middle class, he is a wonderful role model. He stands for American life, not "black life." He is also, a laid back, focused, intelligent, educated, calm human being, which I find refreshing. Obama has a wholesome family life, and has done many things to positively affect lower income families and middle income families. He is a very good example for all children and families, of a good (not perfect!) citizen. McCain, while in his late 40's cheated on, then left his disabled wife for a woman in her early 20's. Not a good role model for family life, in my opinion. And Palin, massacring wolves, stands as a horrible role model for anyone. And together, their nasty campaign ads are shameful. Again, my opinion.

The changes I see Obama making steps toward is finally pulling in the reins on the fat-cat control system that has crumbled our financial system, and has been a detriment to the world financial system. Finally, regulations will be re-implemented. Only a non-Republican can offer this.

I see huge moves toward weaning us off from oil, and onto clean, green energy sources. This will open up a new job market for so many families and individuals who have been affected by NAFTA and CAFTA. It will also have a positive impact on global warming.

Unfortunately, we have careened far beyond the days of once upon a time. Government corruption, wars started under false pretenses, and corporate greed has nearly destroyed us, as anyone who voted against Bush could see coming, eight long years ago. I see Obama coming in with very fresh ideas and perspectives - that will take a long time to materialize in major ways. As everyone knows, you can't clean up a mess like we are in, over night.

Most of the time when an elected offical takes office, you see that the agenda changes (promises, promises). What I expect to see is that President Obama has the same agenda as Candidate Obama did. The priorities will have to change daily, but the agenda should remain the same. smile

We own small businesses, so in anticipation of an Obama presidency we are not rehiring employees as they leave. In order to accomodate the proposed tax increases we will have to cut expenses (i.e., employees) and increase revenue (i.e., prices).

I do see Obama as a "hero" These are the changes I expect from him based on where he stands on the issues.

Equal pay for equal work for women
A $4,000 assistance for college ctudents each year who participate in community service
A healthcare policy that is as good as the members of Congress, giving everyone an opportunity to get it regardless of whrthrt thry are currently ill.
Creating 5 million green jobs and bringing us to energy independence within ten years.
Tax cuts for every American making under 250k for year, and the rest will have the same taxes that they did under Ronald Reagan.

Have you been listening to where he stands on the issues? Almost everything he is doing is change.

I have to tell you guys I'm a tad freaked on all four of them. I don't know what McCain's affair has to do with anything. It was a Democratic president who left stains all over the blue dress we still hear about. Further, it was that president whose sexual antics led to one of the most embarrassing Supreme Court decisions of all time - that a sitting president can be held to answer claims of sexual harrassment while in office. As far as Obama....what would everyone's reaction be had McCain put video of entirely white small children singing his praises on his campaign site? What about little black kids chanting his name in military dress? What about the ACORN scandal? What about Corsi's detention in Kenya this week?? There are questions we should be getting answers to that we are not. I actually read yesterday a woman who posted "thank God for Tina Fey for depicting Palin in a way that regular people can understand." Scares the hell out of me that people like that are voting on the leader of the free world. And what about Egypt's concentrated blogging effort to influence the election?? I would like to see comments out of all of the candidates instead of all the politics as usual [censored] on things we know they're going to disagree over. I don't need to watch them debate the war.....it's a given how they feel about it.

Gina, I'm really feeling your stress over these issues, and I don't blame you. There is so much going on simultaneously that a person's mind can't keep track of it all. In times like these, all I can say is that it's crucial to stay calm and focused on what matters to you.

I brought up McCain's doodling habits in response to his character, and male role model relevance. I was comparing him to Obama as a model husband and father, not Bill Clinton, who is not running for president. It's just icky to leave your disabled wife for a much younger woman like McCain did, after cheating on her with multiple women, for years before he left her.

As far as ACORN being investigated - that's just the stage it's in - investigation. It's being probed by the republican party, who are looking for fraud. Nothing has been found to get upset about. It's just wait and see.

I talked to the video issue on the Campaign Ad thread, something that I'm glad you brought up.

All I can suggest is that people stay away from all of these blogs and partisan "news" reports, and stick to mainstream, nonpartisan reporting; and to the official websites of each candidate. Who really cares if one woman is glad that Tina Fey is around to make things clear for certain people? We each need to gather our energies into what we want to repair our country, which is in crisis. Chasing rhetoric around will only exhaust a person's resources - which, incidentally, is why it's created. It keeps you from keeping your eye on the ball, and on panic and fear.

All of this "politics as usual [censored]" is actually the stuff that matters when two people are running for president. What the candidate's fundamental philosophy is regarding governmental structure, capitalism, and main street priorities are what matter. When it comes to political approach what matters to you? For me right now, it's the need for regulation; incentives for big business to employ Americans; restructuring education; fair taxes; going green; and affordable health-care. A candidate's family life also matters, because I see a man's relationship with his family as an indicator of how he would relate to his country. (Biden and Obama, for me are awesome male role models.) All the rest - smearing, innuendos, speculation is a fox-run distraction leading to exhaustion and confusion.

I guess if ACORN members actually being prosecuted as far back as 1998 isn't enough to "get upset about" then nothing will upset you. Here's a Fraud Map for Acorn.

ACORN is a corrupt organization and Obama has them listed on his resume. You may not can choose your family, but you can choose who is listed on your resume.

Gina, great point...I fully agree. There is so much at stake with this election and we should be able to hear the answers to the questions that are the most troubling.

I will say I like the credit for college students thing, HOWEVER, I am a mom and I work AND I go to school. When am I supposed to fit additional volunteer time in? What kind of voluteering? I teach at my church and serve as a youth sponsor sometimes. Will that count? Or am I going to have to take even more time away from my family to get help with college?
