I would probably choose a Nissan Altima. The 4 cylinder will probably get over 35 miles per gallon and the 6 should be around 30. That's amazing for a cute but powerful car.

The 2008 Toyota Prius takes top honors in our Top 10 Best Gas Mileage Cars list. Toyota has added a base trim to the 2008 Toyota Prius line-up, which makes the Prius more affordable than ever. The entry-level 2008 Prius comes in with an MSRP of $21,100. The 2008 Toyota Prius 4-Door Liftback, which was the introductory trim in 2007, comes in at $22,325 for 2008. This is a mere $150 price increase over the 2007 model. Combine this pricing with potential tax incentives and excellent gas mileage and ownership of the hybrid Prius looks better than ever.

Cars top the rankings in the United States Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency's 2004 Fuel Economy Guide. These are the cars that got the best gas mileage, according to government tests.

You want a car with better gas mileage? Look no further. But you might be surprised with what you find. Sure, everyone with a driver's license probably knows by now that the stubby Toyota Prius gets the best gas mileage, but believe it or not, not every car on the list is a hybrid. Nor are they all Japanese, expensive, or Lilliputian in size. In fact, these cars comprise an impressive range of sizes and styles, from the miniscule Smart Fortwo to the rugged Ford Escape Hybrid. Want to see what other cars offer 30 mpg combined city and highwayor better?
