Can you remember 5 books that you read in High School (or College)? These were some of mine...

1. War & Peace
2. Slauterhouse 5
3. Animal House
4. I am the Cheese
5. 1984

In high school I remember having to read the Hobbit plus the Lord of the Rings Triology and The Greening of America - That last book was pure [censored] in my opinion. Almost as bad as Dianetics.

Gosh - you were all lucky! We got "literary" books.

1. I am David
2. Black Like Me
3. To Kill a Mockingbird

Hmm - cant remember any others of the "must read" list for English. I read heaps and heaps of books (always have) and have continued to read them. These three stand out, because I really disliked them!

I was usually horrified with the books we had to read in High School. And I love to read, always have. They were always sooo depressing.
1. Silas Marner
2.Of Mice and Men
3.1984
4.Farenheit 451
5. Lord of the Flies
And the list goes on and on. Now I realize these are all very important works, but there are a lot of other great books they could have mixed in that would have been a little more enjoyable to read. I would have welcomed To Kill a Mockingbird; or any of the Lord of the Rings books.

Don't remember having to read any in particular. But I did spend a lot of time in the library where I read all of Thomas Hardy's books.I always sat next to the H's and after reading Tess I was hooked. King Lear and Romeo and Juliet were plays we read.
A couple of books that were out then that my friends and I read were Sybill, Johanathan Livingston Seagull and Love Story.

I was in honors literary class all 4 years - so if I listed everything we had to read, we'd be here all day. Plus we always had to read at least 2 of our own choices. My list above was about half and half of book list and my choice.

I love just about anything I read, though.

The only literary book I have ever read that I just could not get into was "Moby Dick". It is actually the only book report I ever "cheated" on. I read the 1st and last chapters and 1st and last paragraph of each chapter - and wrote my book report from that. And I got an "A". grin (we used to have a devilish grin on here - where is that when you need it?)
