I can't believe it, but it is still too cold here to take my African Grey Parrot, Jewel, outside. Normally we have lovely days this time of year, but not this year.
Go ahead - make me jealous. Tell me if you are spending time outside with your bird(s) now.
We have four parakeets so we really don't ever take them outside - but in another few weeks we'll open up the window in their room (with the screen down) so they can hang out there and breathe the fresh air

I have a little deck in my back yard and I take Jewel outside in a travel cage to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine as often as possible. We did have a nice day on Sunday, so we got out for a few minutes anyway.
We've had a wonderful winter (warm) so my birds have been able to venture outside regularly. I think we're in for a hot summer though. It's already warmed up quite a bit at the end of winter & spring has only just arrived now. i hope we get some summer rains, we could do with a little water
I used to live in a town in the northwestern corner of New Jersey. We're talking cold Winters! The town vet owned a beautiful parrot. It was HUGE, with bright blue and red on it. That bird was outside, on the bottom branch of a very large pine tree, whenever the office was open, Summer and Winter. It was always on the same branch so the kids and I would always look for it whenever we passed there.
It surprised me the first time I saw it out there in cold weather, but we just accepted that if the office was open the bird would be out there. I don't think it was even restrained because it was stolen once but was soon returned.
That was the most beautiful bird I've ever seen and was a lovely memory that we still talk about.
Thank-you for the pictures of the Scarlet Macaw, Mavis. That is definitely what the bird was. You can imagine our amazement the first time we saw that bird on it's branch in northern NJ! It was such fun to see it there so regularly.
