'Tis the season...

Or at least, it's getting closer. It's time for our "Countdown to Halloween Horror" book list. Throw out some great and sinister recommended titles of favorite horror books, and be sure to provide the author. Think of one of the SCARIEST books you have read.

Pleasant screams,

Sorry to be so slow on the draw -- although I'm an editor, I'm still learning my way around here!

I love reading spooky stuff for Halloween; it tends to be classic, since I'm not big on gore. My son and I just read "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" together, and it's really worth reading even if you think you already know the story! The writing is brilliant.

Hands down the scariest book I have ever read is Stephen King's "IT".

I remember reading it for the first time when I was in high school. It is the only book I have ever had to actually stop reading for a couple of days because it was inducing nightmares.

But I love, love, love reading any kind of horror - and the classics are wonderful: Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", Bram Stoker's "Dracula", Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" - those are still some of the best pieces of literature (horror or otherwise) that I have read. Especially "Frankenstein".
