Do you know why people wear their Engagement Ring in their Left hand finger?

It is because it is believed that it is connected to the heart.
Don't know the reality but its just a belief.

Ha! What good timing!

I happen to be doing reserach on wedding customs from around the world for my newest article, and there was mention of why the wedding badn is worn on the left finger.

It started as an ancient Egyptian tradition.

Egyptians believed that the ring finger has the "vein amoris", the vein of love, which runs straight to the heart.

Oh, and on wedding day, the engagement ring is moved to the right hand, so that the wedding band may be placed closest to the heart. Then the engagement ring is placed on top of the wedding band.

I found this info on World Wedding Traditions.com
They have traditions from all over the world. There are some fascinating traditions, and it is amazing how many of them have been incorporated into the modern wedding today.

Michelle! LOL I've been working on some research on a wedding ring tradition - that the Egyptians would put a ruby on the inside of the ring - not sure of the symbolism, but we could definitely trade research when I work on that article. I haven't found anything to support the ruby idea at all. I did find that ancient Egyptian women wore a bracelet on each wrist to indicate that they were married and this is this beginning of the wedding ring tradition - those bracelets having migrated to the finger.

Personally, my engagement ring will be moved to my right ring finger when I get married.

Here in Holland we have another tradition. The engagement ring and wedding ring are one and the same ring.

If you're Catholic it is worn on the right ring finger for engagement and switched to the left ring finger when married.

If you're Protestant, it's done in the reverse order.

Go figure ...

For my first marriage, my engagement ring became my wedding ring. We simply bought a wrap for it and it was worn on my left hand.

Since my engagement ring now is so unique, I'm going to move it to my right hand once I'm married & the wedding ring will be on my left hand.

I have seen people wear both rings on their left hand here in the US.

Its show simple test to show that the symbolic of wearing ring on our fourth finger. There are belief that to keep the relationship forever like how you could not move apart the ring fingers.

I have read that the vein to the heart passes directly through the ring finger on the left hand . That is the reason behind the old practice of wearing your engagement ring on the left hand.

Another case of symbolism. smile
