My local bead store lady has quite the eye - and luck - with suppliers from places. She recently acquired some new strands of gemstones, among them some gorgeously flashy little rondelles labeled "black sapphire". They sparkle like some of the "black diamond" strands I've seen, or like they have a coating similar to the titanium bonding of mystic topaz, but I've never heard of "black sapphire" before. Anyone here have nay guesses as to what it is?

I have the earrings - I just assumed they were sapphires that were black. For example - my birthstone for November is Topaz - they have blue topaz, as well as the citrine, etc.

There are white opals and black opals.

Sapphire not only comes in blue. But most people think its only blue.Its actually can be found in many other colors such as white, black, pinkish-orange or tangerine, and a golden or yellow shade.

But black sapphire usually the most rare one and if you interested on black sapphire, I have the collection that you might be interested.
