My friend colored my hair the other day. She used Dark Auburn. I don't know what she was thinking - or why I let her use that color. It's way too dark. So yesterday, I went to the salon & they put a lighter color over it and it *is* better. They took the burgundy color out for me. The stylist said she didn't want to do anymore color over this color as we would be risking orange. Yeah, I don't want orange. She also felt that the color was too dark for my skin... Generally, I wear a color that is a bit darker than what is in my avatar. So the stylist suggested two things - 1. Do some foils (highlights) around the face) or 2. Strip out the color and recolor my hair. I said I'd wear the color for a few days before I decided anything. What do you all think? These are taken at the end of the day. My hair a little untamed, but you get the idea of the color.

Jeanne, I like it! You'll probably find it fades out pretty fast--mine always does! I like highlights, too, though! The highlights and fading will both help you grow it out, too.
Sometimes I deliberately go a bit darker (we're talking dark blonde/light brown-- that's dark for me--my normal color is light ash blonde or champagne blonde--which is just a bit lighter than my natural color--before gray!) and add some painted-on highlights at the front.
I always color my own though, and I did do auburn once (14 yers ago!)--light auburn--on me it looked almost hooker black. I went right back to the 24 hour Walgreen's for a lighter color!

I would not worry about it! It does not look as bad as you think it does. And red is the first to fade. If you still don't like it after 3 or 4 weeks you can try using an ASH shade of dark blonde or light brown. Ravyn

You are your own worst critic, I think it looks lovely!
My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy your ice cream while it's on your plate~ that's my philosophy. (T.H. Wilder)

I think getting several thin strands highlighted around your face, and a few at the back, would break up the colour really well. It's a nice colour, but a bit solid. In those photos you've got good lighting, but if you had photos taken in a slightly darker setting, it could make the hair look a bit like a helmet (talking from experience LOL).

Jeanne, it will probably fade in a few washings. I think a few highlights around the face would be great - not blonde, just a couple shades lighter than your tint.

I wish that my hair color I did today looked HALF that good! Highlights around your face might be fun, but the color looks really good just like it is. The cut is very becoming, too.
