My mom was told this morning that she has a profound allergy to gluten. She called me laughing her head off. She LOVES bread. hehehe

Anyway, does anyone have a basic gluten free bread recipe - not too many crazy ingredients?

She was also told this can run in families - lovely. I love bread, too. I'll run it by my doctor next time I'm in her office...

Whole Foods sells corn bread and other gluten free items in their freezer section. Some of them are good:

There are a lot of great gluten-free food blogs out there. One of my favorites is The Gluten Free Goddess BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. If you don't know how to do UBB code just post here for help - we will help out!

I am not sure where you all live but I know of this restaurant that just opened in Manhattan that serves only gluten-free pizzas and pastas. Check out the info:

Jeanne,

For you and your mom... check out www.deliciousandhealthy.com. This site is a friend of mine, Meg Haworth, who has done an excellent job creating resources for the gluten and dairy allergic. She has a great cookbook for the newly diagnosed teaching how to do a two-week elimination, and basically teaches you how to eat gluten (and dairy) free -- you can just do one or the other though.

For your purposes, it might be handy for you to do her diet for 2 weeks and see if anything changes for you. The best way to figure out if you have a gluten allergy/sensitivity is to eliminate gluten and see what happens! Then put it back in, and see what happens (unless it is SO obvious you should leave it out).

Meg also has a nice free newsletter on living gluten/dairy free.... and other free resources and articles online.

I'm really proud of her for what she's done.

I'd also recommend "Living Without" magazine -- a whole recipe and lifestyle magazine for those with food allergies...

Nicki :-)

Oh... I forgot to mention... Sheree reviewed the cookbook on the Allergies and Colds site...

No dairy/gluten cookbook
