So I got a different kind of bingo than usual. My next door neighbor is a area representative for finding families to host foreign exchange students. She was not able to place one of the girls, and so they would have two girls in an already crowded house. She had asked me once before if I would host, and I told her no. Now the other day, she runs up to me and my husband when we came home trying to convince us to host the girl. The bingo is in that she kept mentioning how we have a "nice house" (translated: you are the only two living in a house, you have plenty of space...) When we refused her again, she was pretty upset, you could tell she was thinking about how "selfish" we were to not do this. I'm like, you know, I'm only 25, I don't see how much good I'm going to be acting like a 16 year olds mother! This is pretty annoying that she would hound us just because we have room for a kid. Has anyone had this type of thing happen to them?

Wow, some people just don't understand what "no" means!! I haven't had anything like that happen to me (yet) but I do often get similar treatment in that everyone assumes since I'm a woman that I know how to care for a child. My sister in law and other friends with children will force their kids on me then expect me to know how to entertain them or whatever. I don't know, nor do I want to know! I've never changed a diaper in my life and I plan to keep it that way! laugh

Her attitude SUCKS! Personally I think people should host foreign exchange students if and when they want to not feel pressured into it! You know if someone wants the extra money and or the cultural experience. (I think it's something I'd like to do but waay in the future) But to try to guilt you into it that is disgusting! She has taken it upon herself to find homes for these girls it is HER responsibility NOT yours and if she approaches everyone the way she approached YOU about it then NOONE will want to take them/her in. I hope the girl is not already over there!! P.S. as I've said a billion times the assumption I get is cos I work with kids that means I must want one of my own. Uh NO!

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

it is a big responsibility to have someone live in your house. I would have to be honest and say no thank you because if someone else lived in my house I could not walk around in my underwear.

ha! exactly. that's what we were thinking... you know we love to be spontaneous and have sex at any time during the day, and anywhere in the house... and that would just be awkward with a teenager in the house. :-)

NO is a no is a no. She's very pushy about this - which probably gets her her way more often that not. Let her think of you whatever she wants and if it comes up again, tell her you find her attitude disrespectful.
