I am new to quilting, so please forgive my ignorance. In my search for State quilt blocks, I've come across some that have more than one version. Is the style for State quilt blocks up to the designer? I would also like to find books on the history of State quilt blocks - e.g. how the Ohio Star came to be.
Thanks Linda

I am new to the Internet and therefore new to this forum. I would first of all like to thank you for this series of blocks, and am glad to know you will complete the series. Do other countries have similiar blocks? I would then like to know if there is a history for these blocks. Were they designed for a special occassion? Have they ever been published? Are the blocks 'official' with pre-determined colors, etc.? It seems that some states are very complicated while others are very simple in design. Are they from differing 'sets'? Thank You.

Is there anyone serious about making this quilt who has gotten to the step of fabric selection yet? I am drawn between a patriotic red, white and blue quilt with a "waving flag" focus fabric (I already have) on each block; or the possibility that each state has specific color requirements. Should the blocks look more individual or more united? OMG Am I a Republican or a Democrat?
I would like to hear your opinions. GrannyH

Hi, I am serious about making it, but trying to finish up some things first. A baby quilt, curtains for my mom, and just a couple of items I still have to bind. But I was kinda thinking of going cival war theme. Yankee's, Rebels, Hoosiers maybe. Still thinking on it. Actually I should just go scrap and try to use up some fabric but then I don't have an excuse to go buy fabric. Hmmm,,, decisions. And did you decide to wave the flag?

The only place I can see this quilt hanging is the public library. If that's the setting, I'll probably wave the flag. But it certainly would be a nice place for scraps. How about scraps and focus fabric? Yeah!! I don't think so either.

Well maybe we should get very artistic and make it a real artsy quilt. Stately Artly.

Well Donna Rae, I've started it. It will be red, white and blue, at least in the beginning. After I've done a couple blocks, I'll make my final decision. I don't like all of the blocks that were done here at Bella (how about a 'mystery quilt' instead of a Georgia block), so I'll need to find a few different blocks. Wasn't the South Carolina block great? It will be my starting point, but I won't do much just yet. School will be starting in a few weeks, soon my days will be mine again.
Granny all summer long.

Judie, I would first of all like to tell you how excited I become whenever I check the State Blocks and find that another one is available. But the Texas block has two downfalls as far as I'm concerned, not that you are responsible. I will be assembling the blocks alphabetically, so I'll have two 8-pointed stars together (Tennessee and Texas). And I didn't bargain for any applique when I started. Oh joy! Oh well! Secondly, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about identifying the blocks? I was thinking of CrossStitching the 2-letter postal codes for each state in the sashing just below each block, but I would love to hear other ideas. GrannyH
