Interesting article showing that even if you have a gifted child it can be in some ways a PAIN in the BUTT e.g. high cost..
"The high price of raising an Olympian" The high price of raising an Olympian

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

Ouch, this just adds to the list of "Why I won't EVER have Kids".

I mean, look at this:

"Lauryn's success is truly based upon the fact that it takes a village to raise a child," she says. "I have had an excellent, excellent base of friends who, when I said, 'We're going to a track meet, Lauryn needs a pair of shoes, I got $50 for a pair, and I need another $30,' somebody always stepped up to the plate and helped us out. Some days I didn't really have to ask. I would come home and find an envelope with $20 under the door. We all kind of pitched in."

While it IS nice to donate to a friend in need, I don't think I could ever donate money to any cause like this. I'm trying to save everything I've got for the future, not fund your kid's dream-career that might not even work out.

If it's something your child really wants, I say go for it! But, I think there are a lot of parents who do things like this for their child because THEY want it, not their children. Whether it's sports, acting, or playing instruments, I think a lot of parents are living vicariously through their children.

But if it truly was the child's dream, I'd help out. Everyone has dreams, and just because you think they may not "make it" doesn't make that dream invalid.
