All I think of when I see a pregnant woman is the scene from 'Alien' when the creature bursts out of his stomach. Sorry. That's all I got.

^Seconded. I've even looked at birth videos...And ugh. That's all I can think about.

Babies also gross me out. They look..Evil. And creepy. With the exception of a coupple babies who can be nice, but for the most part...Ew, no, just...No.

I think its disgusting when pregnant women wear belly shirts or really tight shirts stretched over their huge belly's. No one needs to see that!

My mom was a nurse midwife for many years so I guess I never felt freaked out by pregnant women (after school I'd often go to her office). About the only thing that freaked me out was their attitudes towards the end of it laugh

Definitely never wanted to be pregnant though. As much as my "go girl" feminist mind hates to admit it, I'm a wuss when it comes to pain. I have no doubt that I'd be reduced to a sniveling, weeping mass of tissue before long.

What I do find creepy is all the people who want to touch the pregnant bellies. You get people who don't even know the pregnant lady want to rub them down like a Buddha statue. I'm very touchy about personal space, I could NOT handle everyone wanting to touch me like that, ugh!

I'm with Naomi though, babies are just plain creepy. They act a lot like cats I've noticed, they tend to gravitate towards the person who dislikes them the most. I hate it when they stare at you...The parents will coo "ohhh look he likes you!" while this kid is just staring at me...gives me the chills. Every time I see one crawl on the floor I get flashbacks to the horror movies with the monster creeping along the floor coming to kill you eek

YES. It seems like they are invading the woman's personal space. D: I've seen random strangers go up to my pregnant aunt and just rub her belly, making creepy noises. I've never touched a pregnant woman's belly..It's always freaked me out as a kid, and today as an adult. I'm touchy, as well. I think the only people that I don't mind contact from is my SO and my pets. It's more of a trust and comfort issue..

I agree, MiraKitty. They look like giant killer insects from old horror films. I hate it when they stare, too..it's like they want you to die or something. My worst experience was when I was 10, and my dad brought me to Florida to visit family..My aunt had a baby, and she was at the walking age. I was napping on the couch, and the thing grabbed my eyes! D: I screamed and ran into the upstairs bathroom and locked the door. My dad thought it was amusing at first, but I was locked in that bathroom for eight hours before he could persuade me to come out so we could head back to the hotel.

(I also scrubbed my eyes out repeatedly with soap and water. Ow!)

Hey MiraKitty grin-
As someone who has avoided pregnant folks and babies as much as possible, I'm curious about this "attitude" you mentioned. I've heard of a nesting tendancy, where they have a lot of energy at the end and are all about fixin up the house and whatnot, and I had a boss who became incredibly nice and happy right before she left on maternity leave. Is that what you meant? A stupified bliss thing, where they're oblivious and in some kind of pregnancy trance?

I'm incredibly curious about how women's brains shrink while they're pregnant etc. I've always assumed it was so you could tolerate the screaming poop-storm (aka- a small child) for the next three or so years. A friend once told me she felt like being a mom made her stupid- & I had to silently agree- it seemed like after giving birth she was never the same. Her short term memory just evaporated and I noticed that her grammer in things she wrote actually got worse. I'm sure this is an extreme case, but another friend who is older(& who is really smart) actually told me the same thing. She felt like she just wasn't as sharp as she was before the kids.

I was more referring to the crankiness after nine months of a growing leech inside you. Swollen ankles, short tempers, etc. I guess I saw the worst of them, they "let it all hang out" when not around family I guess lol. Very few that I saw in my mom's office were happy and full of energy...I wonder if it's a front they put up to make sure people know they're happy about being pregnant/going to have a baby. It was an interesting transition to watch the "ohmygosh I'm pregnant! :D" turn into "Get this out of me NOW!"

My sister in law totally matches your friend. She is always forgetting things, and perpetually talks in "babytalk" --you know, the dumbed down, high pitched cooey voice that for whatever reason humans feel the need to talk to their children in... She jokes that she has "mommy mush brain" like it's cute or something...it freaks me out. She's the only one of my family who hasn't accepted my childfree life.

I wonder sometimes what she is thinking when she moans about the latest mess/whatever that the "little darlings" have made or that the baby kept her up all night, or (my favorite) when her little brats throw temper tantrums in public, and then tells me "oh but it's so glorious to be a mother!!" Every time she does that I just think "yeah...right."

There is a hormone - oxytocin. It's the same hormone that causes orgasms and the highest levels ever achieved by the human body are in an unmedicated woman at the moment she delivers her baby. :-D Just an FYI.

I have a friend who is a very "take charge and be in control" woman - Career Air Force and very....in control. She ended up pregnant and I don't think it was planned.

Anyway - she was getting groceries once and standing in line reading a magazine when the stranger (MAN) behind her grabbed her belly. Like two-handed, open-palmed GRABBED her belly. She set down her magazine and grabbed him between the legs....HARD!

*laughing* He put his hands up in the air in an "I surrender" posture and said "Um - I, uh.....ow - I...." And she just looked at him blandly and said, "Yeah - I don't like total strangers grabbing at me either."

Let him go and went back to her mag without missing a beat or blinking an eyelash! LOL!

I always think of that story just in case some stranger ever grabs my belly...I'm prepared!
