Since there are two other people in my new group that have my first name (NEVER happened before!), I suggested being called by my last name, Scott, or Scotty. The person walking in at the end of the conversation asked "We should call you Biscotti?". It took on a life of its own, and stuck.

Hi Biscotti! That is so cute. My nickname, Gabby, came from my grandson. When he was first learning to talk, my mother and I both lived close by and saw him often. My daughter referred to my mother as Great Grandma and to me as Grammy. My grandson turned "Grammy" into "Gabby" and now that is my nickname.

My nickname from my parents was always "Pumpkin"....now, I was born in the fall...but...?? They are no longer around to ask.

I think that's a Southern thing.

"Pumkin" (the P gets lost in Georgia's drawl) was what my Papa called all the girls. Along with "Lady bug" and a couple of others.

When my oldest son was about 3 we had a hilarious conversation with him one time called "What does ____ say?"

What does GranPapa say? "hey Dude"
What does GranMama say? "hey pumkin" (yeah that one got passed down!)
What does Daddy say? "hey kiddo"
What does Mommy say? "hey sweetie"

He knew exactly what everyone's nickname for him was. It was so funny! laugh (I haven't thought about that in years - thanks for bringing back the memory!)

As a toddler, my sister had trouble pronouncing the family name, Meade. It came out "Mink". The poor woman has been "Minky" for 45 years. She rolls her eyes a lot. But I believe she also gave my Mom's dad the monicker "Boompa".
