Glad that in these tough economic times, they opted out of parenthood.

I definitely am and I'll tell you why. There is alot of insecurity where I work at now. We just had one lay-off and i'm almost certain they are going to reduce my hours or lay me off altogether. While the thought of a lay-off is a bit troubling, I'm not as worried as those with families.

If push comes to shove, I can rent a room in someone's home, reduce my budget and ideally move on and get the education that I needed to work in a line of work that would be more suited to my needs.

So, all that to say, that I am intensely grateful that I did not make what would have been an unwise decision FOR ME, and adopt a child.

I am basically FREE to make my life whatever I want it to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad we don't have kids to worry about either! I have seen how tight my sister's budget has gotten since my nephew was born last year. We don't have a ton of money, since we both work in a museum, but we don't have the kinds of financial reposibilities parents have!

That is great Kim. All the parents I know are having a hard time keeping their heads above water. I don't know why I thought be a single mother would be a good thing for me, but Thank God, I listened to that inner voice.

I am going for a Master's in Museum Science. Don't know where it will lead me, but tired of my present profession.

Times are a bit tough in the UK too and I'm glad that for hubby & I we can move into our first home when we are ready and the market is good NOT have to rush into it cos we need more space for the kids!!

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

Even if I were independently wealthy, I still wouldn't want kids. No amount of money can buy the temperament and
patience needed to be a good parent. I know my strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. I lack the temperament and patience parenting requires big time. The $160 I spent on a vasectomy 2 years ago looks better and better with each passing day.

I was unemployed for a summer 11 years ago. While the job search was frustrating at times, things worked out well for me in the end. I landed with my present employer, a 10 min walk from home. The job I got laid off from was a bad fit for me and I had a 45 min commute.
