So... My husband and I went to our consultation for a vasectomy. We were kind of freaked out, reading things that people say its hard to get a doctor to do it when you're under 30 and have no kids. Well, we went in and told the doctor about it, and he seemed a little taken aback. But we told him we really have thought it over, and that if we do end up changing our minds later and want a kid, we'd adopt. And he seemed pretty pleased with that answer. And that was pretty much it, we scheduled the procedure for September. I am so happy that I have a great husband who will go through this for us. I'm excited that we finally will have the status of being childfree! And I am so thrilled that we have this place, to have support and knowledge that we're not alone.

Way to go!

I've got issues with my IUD, and the military preferred to sterilize my husband since he is 36 and has a child. Plus it's a much less invasive procedure. He got snipped just over a month ago. (TMI alert!) The doctor commented how his procedure would be easy once the incision was made; he was confident in his decision and relaxed. Apparently the guys who aren't quite as sure tend to tense up and make the vas retract some. (/TMI)

The operation was a non-issue. There was some slight pain in the first week, (he has a tendency to ignore doctor's orders about restricting activity) and after that only strenuous activity (running without good support) was uncomfortable.

Rock on with your bad selves and welcome to the club!

Hi!
Well done! My hubby got one last year. Only thing is, hes still making me pay for not going in with him. He says all the wives were there holding their husbands hands, whereas I sent my hubby in to get it done alone. Feel bad about it - I should have been more supportive, but figured it was no big deal.
One thing that bugged me was that all the support literature said 'make sure you dont want ANY MORE kids' as if the only people to get a vas are fathers already (it even said - 'dont go home and play with kids / go to gym that night!'). I raised it and eventually got all UK literature changed to say 'make sure you want no kids in the future' - one up for the childfree!
