Well Sorry I was right, sorry about your fish. I am still learning about my fish and have been lucky so far. I was really worried a while ago when he was sick but he got better. I was driving myself crazy over what to do and not. But I realized that I am just in the learning process with these fish. So try not to worry too much, do the best you can. I think fish is probably the worst pet at trying to keep alive, so much to worry about! Wish you better luck with other fish.

About that plant, don't know much about those plants, but I have heard of people never changing the water because they have a special plant that feeds and cleans the fish. I don't really know about that, sounds fishy to me I have a plastic glow in the dark plant that works really well and my fish bubbles still enjoys it. fish

Thanks for your reply. Well the plant has been in another tank for 5 days now. Still nice and green, sprouting new leaves so I really don't think it was ever about the plant nw. I have los of fish actually, my oldest ones are 3 yrs old now, but I am relatively new to bettas. He did send signals that he was sick but I misread them. I am learning hough and I have 7 bettas now all looking and eating great. Thanks

Hi. I just won my second Betta at the New Jersey shore. The thing is, he isn't eating either. I am hoping it is just the stress of the hour and ahlaf ride home as my mom got one too and hers is not eating yet eitehr.

Want to hear something funny though? I love animals first of all. I origianlly asked for a white fish with a little red that i saw someone put back. He had the cutest little face. Then, I saw someone put back one with a purple body and white fins. I asked to see him and could not decide. Finally, the guy just told me tot ake the purple one and my huband agreed that he liked that one better too, so I brought Zeta home. Now I can't stop thinking about the one I left behind. I feel bad for not taking him since he was my first choice. He ahd a cuter face then the one I got, but I never saw purple on these fish before. Should i feel bad? Why do I still feel bad. I keep thinking "I should have got the other one". But then i would probably be saying the same thing about the one I did get. They only had 30 fish and loads of people trying to win them, so I assume my other little guy found a home. I just hope the people that got him properly take care of him. S o should I be worried about him not eating yet? I got him three days ago. Or should I just give him some more time?

Hello rns

He may just be taking his time about adjusting to his new conditions. Who knows what he has been through before you got him. I would find a way to warm up his water to about 80 F....I know they say these fish do ok in room temp water but..they really are much happier in the high 70's low 80's. They do come from tropical areas.

They can go awhile without eating and it won't hurt them..even does them good at times...but do try and offer him something everyday but make sure you take out what he doesn't eat so it doesn't foul the water.

What kind of tank do you have him in? Is the water heated? You might try offering him something different..these fish can be a bit finicky at times and maybe he just isn't used to what you have to offer.

Let us know how he does rns!

You didn't mention what it is you are offering him for food either. These fish do not seem to take to flake foods at all. I have 4 who eat betta bio gold and 3 who won't touch it. All of mine seem to love freeze dried bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. They also tend to like a little salt in their water . Most say 1 tsp aquarium salt to 1 gal of water. I use about 1/2 tsp in my tanks except for my fissh who got it, then I used the full tespoon. NOT table salt...well not salt with iodine in it.

warm temps, don't move the tank too much, feed temping food like bio-golds or live stuff (they are GREEDY for those), aquarium salt, proper water changes and a little bettafix for awhile...once your fish adjusts it's not so hard to keep them healthy. It's just very traumatic to be jiggled around from Thailand to your house!
