I am afraid to tell you guys how many bettas I have, so I won't. Suffice to say the number fluctuates on amount of babies and purchases and sales...but I also have non-bettas too, several large tanks to make my obssession complete. Still no discus, though, sadly...

Glo, I am glad your doggies like your hobby. My dogs are my children too, and the littlest one, the chihuahua, likes the fish too!

OK I will have to go and try to describe some of my new bettas in the personality section but first...how many tanks and fish Jilly. I have had Discus...not anymore but they were gorgeous. I have a total of 250 gallons of fish swimming in my house NOT counting these little betta creatures swimming around in the sunroom. My daughter says if we have an earthquake I am going to drown. I used to have 400 gals until I stopped breeding the angels.. except I do have one pair getting ready to spawn and am thinking maybe "just one more spawn" so OK off to the personality section.

oooh! Spawn your angels one more time so we can hear allabout it!!!

Okay, i have seven large tanks with various residents, five smaller non-betta tanks, and betta tanks/bowls/jars/various decor with bettas in them all over the house. Also three dogs and two guinea pigs. And weirdly, now my husband is getting into the act and has declared he want his own 33gal curved front corner tank for his office! (he has expensive tastes when it comes to his office). I am pleased he's getting into this obssession, tho.

if I had to count bettas...let's see: 14 at this time, since I am not breeding anyone currently.

Wow....14 bettas ! Haha...I don't feel quite so bad now Jilly!

But, it is fun to share a hobby/obsession with folks who can appreciate it!! I keep trying to talk to friends and aquaintances about my fish...they just don't get quite as excited about it as I think they should  I have learned to curb my enthusiasm around folks who could care less..but that just isn't any fun!

Right now I am trying to talk a friend into letting her daughter get one...she is old enough to take care of them herself (she has been asking for a fish)...I think she may be coming around..I'll have to bring her over and show her my setups...with the daughter preferably Is that considered sneaky tactics?

Emg  fish

No, not sneaky at all...after all, you are helping a fish get a good home, plus teaching a kid something educational about biology and caring for something.

Phew..I feel better now Jilly

This poor woman just went through a rough divorce and does not want pets as she has lots to deal with these days. So I do feel a bit guilty trying to foist something like a fish on them, but...they can be very comforting friends..they don't ask much. I think it would do her and her daughter some good. I'll keep trying without being too pushy about it though..since I may have some babies that I need to find good homes for before too long!

I just wanted to let anyone know that when you first get a fish and it is not eating. This may be a very bad sign that the fish is sick. My friend's fish recently died and that was the way hers did at first. Look closely and check the fish out to see all the treatment options you might have for a sick fish. She know more know that it probably had a fungus. Him not eating might have been a sign.

ALSO: My fish recently was not eating and i think that might have been from bad stuff in the water. But be patient with the fish and take care of it the best you can and try several ways to coax it to eat again.

Hi Bellae Yes you are right his name is Mr Finnicky and if you look at that thread you will see that he did in fact show some signs of ick within a couple of days of my getting him. He seems to have cleared from the ick now and is back in a 1 gal and going to get a round of Bettafix as he still clamps his fins more than any of the others and overall isn't ask spunky. He does eat though and today added frozen brine shrimp to the food he will eat. He does flare at a neighbor close by when I remove the cardboard i have blocking them so they can visit "well ya know" for a while.
Thanks
Glo

Well Bellae you are right again. Colonel Mustard was in fact sick. I have no idea what was wrong with im, he never did show any signs of ick...his fins were full and gorgeous. The only thing I ever saw at allw as his lying around in the plant. I am wondering if the plant in fact made him sick and if it did I should not have put it in another tank which is where it is right now. It is green and seems very healthy. I bought it at the lfs just a few days ago for hte Colonels little aquascene...maybe a big plant should not be in a 1 gal tank, and it messed with the water chemistyr. I don't know but anyway I think I will not be doing that again for a while since I don't know if it was the fish or the plant that is the real problem.
