Adding to the mix on popular media depicting teen pregnancy, ABC Family network presents The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Admittedly, I have to go back and watch the first episode that aired on July 1st, but I did tune in last night. So far, I'm generally bothered by the fact that they are planning on showing a fifteen-year-old girl go through an entire pregnancy - considering health issues (that they apparently aren't addressing) alone, it is problematic. Throw in the way they are handling the website (link above), and it gets extremely troubling.

So, I'm wondering what others think on this one. Is this yet another case of popular media romanticizing teen pregnancy? Is ABC Family handling the promotion of the program responsibly? From the pro-choice perspective, is this yet another bit of anti-choice propaganda in spite of the disclaimers they post at the end of each show about the importance of the teen pregnancy issue?
