Not sure where to put this question but in the past few days, the traffic to my health and wellness site has dropped by 50%. A friend sent me a thread to Webmaster's world that said Google had a big shake-up and rankings are getting shuffled.
Has anyone had experience with this before? My site is 2 years old and I know in the past Google has had shake ups and people start over. If you do start over, do you just do all the same things again - ie submit to ezines, get on forums, etc?
Has anyone else experienced this in the past couple weeks?

Hi Joan,
I find the most important part of being listed on Google and other SEs are your meta-tags - keywords, description, etc. are all important to include. This is how the SE spiders your site.
Links to other quality sites are also important, but without the metatags, it is difficult to have all pages on your site spidered into the listings.

Thanks June. I wasn't relying on links, for sure. That was only a small part of my strategy and I don't use them very heavily.
I had a great ebook on how to optimize your site for search engines and wrote all my articles with these tips in mind. The only place I used links was if it led the reader to another site with additional - and important - info, and it was also highly rated. I steered away from link exchanges also.

I've noticed this, too, and it's driving me insane. I've dropped to the bottom of page 1 results and even into page 2 now with my biggest competitor at number 2 on page 1. I don't know what to do to fix it. I've been using AdWords but am slowly going broke. i'd appreciate any tips and tricks you can give me so my business doesn't go under.

I never have spent any money on adwords or any form of advertising. I'd suggest doing some ezine articles. You might try using www.CafeMom.com too. You can build a profile page there and add links to your website and business, plus do journal posts ABOUT your business. Since there are hundred, maybe thousands of moms on there, I'd think it would be a great place to get the word out on your biz. I loved your webpage. It's really cute and very unique. Having raised 3 girls, I can see the potential of this type of thing.

I think summer may also be affecting pageviews. Mine have decreased significantly - I wasn't aware of the Google shakeup, but I do know they're pulling their Adsense Referral ads, which may also affect everything else.
Things are slower in the summer, aren't they?

Yes, web use is usually down in summer and starts picking up again about Sept. I try to have some summer relevant pages, like travel, tips for summer health, summer recipes, etc to fill in the gap, which helps a little.
