What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July?

Picnics, fireworks, parades?

For some of my thoughts on this great American holiday go to
American Holidays, Taxes, Tea, and the 4th of July

my favorite thing is getting everyone together, with blankets, lawn chairs, and heading out to the field to watch fireworks! It's great family fun in the outdoors. It brings back memories from childhood doing this with mom and dad.
P.S. don't forget the bug spray!!

Yeah, that brings back memories. When I was really little my Dad used to hold his hands over my ears to muffle the booms. Now we go to a picnic where we can see the fireworks from several different locations at one time from the yard but you can't really feel or hear the booms from a distance. They still look amazing but sometimes I still miss hearing and feeling those loud booms. The good thing though is there's still plenty of picnic food to enjoy while watching the sky smile

The local city 4th of July parade is really cute.. especially in a congressional election year. I love all their floats for the candidates and local party chapters -- they are trying so hard! smile

But my favorite part is that right after the police that start the parade is always an entry called "kids on bikes" -- which is like 20 solid minutes of kids riding by on RWB decorated bikes, or other things like wagons, unicycles, etc. It's pretty cute.

I think parades are great. I like them the best when they have a band or two in them. There aren't too many bands in parades now but with or without them parades are still great fun for the kids. And we all know when the kids are having fun and happy we're generally happy too smile

Since our city is small and only has one middle and one high school, we do get their bands and cheerleaders and whatnot. It's all very 1950s. I love it!
