Quick, sing the theme song from Hockey Night in Canada.

If you're a Canadian, you probably can. "Dah, dah, dunduntdun, dah, dah, dunduntdun..." It is a huge part of the Canadian identity. We all grew up hearing it played.

Have you heard that CBC is considering dropping the Hockey Night in Canada Theme song? Apparently, CBC doesn't own the song and have been paying a licence fee everytime they use it. According to the Globe and Mail,the CBC tried to purchase the song but the owner felt their offer was well below what the song is worth and refused it.

How do you feel about the possible demise of the famous Hockey Night theme song? Do you think the CBC should fight for it, or adopt a new theme?

Thanks Kevin. I was surprised that CTV ended up with the song. You're absolutely right about its cultural status - even Canadians who don't really follow hockey can sing the (ex)hockey night theme on demand.

I am still "new" to Canada and I can even recognize the song. Heck, my daughter has even picked up on it and perks up whenever it came on the TV. I really can't imagine them replacing it.
