The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan has been hired to write the script for the proposed Robotech live-action movie. Kasdan's credits include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi, The Bodyguard[i], and [i]Dreamcatcher.

It is also being reported that producers Akiva Goldsman and Charles Roven are assigned to the project. Matt Milam is being listed as one of the executives for Warner Bros.

It is not known at this time how Warner Bros. will be able to deal with the copyright dispute between Harmony Gold's partner Tatsunoko Productions and the creators of Macross.

Tommy Yune talked a little bit about the live-action move at the Robotech panel at Anime Expo.

Yune confirmed that that Warner Bros. is planning the film, that Tobey Maguire is involved, and the script is being written by Lawrence Kasdan. Also, Yune said the live action film is planned to be a re-imagining of the Robotech universe, and that the film will take place in the future.

In addition, Yune commented that Robotech: Shadow Rising (the sequel to Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles) is going to be taken in a new direction because of new opportunities brought about by the live-action film.
